Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 24, 2023
LogKit is dedicated to maintaining the privacy and security of your data. We process minimal data necessary to deliver our structured logging and observability services, ensuring your backend logs remain yours.
What We Collect
We collect the following categories of data to provide and improve our services:
- Account Data: Name, email address, company name, and billing address required to create an account and process payments.
- Log Data: Structured log events you emit via our SDK. This includes message strings, timestamp, severity levels, and any custom fields you tag (e.g., trace IDs, user IDs, error codes). This data is processed in your designated region.
- Usage Telemetry: Anonymous data regarding SDK version usage, error rates in the library, and feature adoption to help us prioritize improvements.
- Cookie Data: Small text files stored on your device to maintain your session and remember your preferences (e.g., dark mode toggle, language selection).
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used strictly for the following purposes:
- Service Delivery: Storing, indexing, and processing your log events to provide real-time query and alerting capabilities.
- Billing & Administration: Verifying your identity, processing subscriptions, and sending invoices via our payment processor (Stripe).
- Product Improvement: Analyzing aggregate usage patterns to identify bugs in the SDK or platform, and to improve performance and user experience.
Data Retention and Deletion Policy
We retain your data for the duration necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined above, subject to applicable laws.
- Free Tier: 7 days of retention.
- Pro Tier: 30 days of retention.
- Enterprise Tier: Up to 1 year of retention by default, configurable via your account settings.
Upon account deletion or a valid Right to Erasure request, your data is permanently purged from our active systems within 30 days. However, backups retained for disaster recovery may persist longer, though they are rendered unreadable.
Third-Party Processors
We rely on third-party services to facilitate our operations:
- AWS / GCP: We utilize object storage (S3 or GCS) and compute instances to host the LogKit platform. Your data is encrypted at rest using AES-256.
- Stripe: Handles all payment processing and merchant account management.
- Cloudflare: Provides CDN and DDoS protection services for our web interface.
None of these third parties have access to your raw log content beyond what is necessary for their specific service function (e.g., AWS does not index your logs).
Your GDPR Rights
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Right to Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to Rectification: You may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to Erasure: You may request the deletion of your data (the "Right to be Forgotten").
- Right to Portability: You may request a portable copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to Object: You may object to the processing of your data.
Your CCPA Rights (California Residents)
For residents of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you the following rights:
- Right to Know: You may request to know what personal data we collect, use, share, or sell.
- Right to Delete: You may request the deletion of your personal data.
- Right to Opt-Out: You may request not to have your data sold or shared with third parties for cross-contextual behavioral advertising.
